Project Description

Stewart-Cooper-Newell was chosen to design an additional branch to the Gaston County Public Library System. Located in Southeastern Gaston County, an area of rapid population growth for the County, this facility includes all the amenities of a modern library:

  • Computers and high-speed Internet access
  • Cubicles for reading and personal study
  • Separation of literature and non-fiction by genre

The library has one, main public entrance in the front of the facility, located near the circulation desk. For security, the librarians have a clear, full view of the facility from the office area located behind the circulation desk. The restrooms are located in the lobby.

A large community room was included in the design scope, for the purposes of children’s reading programs, civic group meetings, local Boy Scouts troops and corporate meetings. This room is entirely self-sufficient, with its own kitchen space, and can be separated from the rest of the library as needed.

Branch construction was completed within six months.
